Serra Club of Savannah
What is Serra?
Serra is the lay vocation arm of the church. Its aim is to foster and affirm vocations to the priesthood and vowed religious life and to further Catholicism by encouraging its members, in fellowship, through education, to fulfill their vocations to service.
The first Serra Club was formed in 1935 in Seattle, Washington. Today there are more than 800 clubs in 37 countries with a membership of more than 19,000. In the United States there are 332 clubs with 12,500 members. Serra is named after Blessed Junípero Serra, the noted Spanish Franciscan missionary priest who played a leading part in early missionary work in Mexico and the Western United States. Today Serrans are dedicated to encouragement of vocations, spiritual growth through continuing Catholic education and warm fellowship.
